IN THE HEART well-being and mental health of young people and teachers, with a global and integrated approach and particular attention to prevention. The guidelines from the EU Commission, published for European Mental Health Week, include two new sets of guidance for education policy makers e for school leaders and educators.
There are 11 recommendations issued, which touch on crucial issues such as:
- aim for prevention by building skills through social and emotional learning, enhancing physical activities and nutrition, ensuring equity through targeted measures;
- sustainably increase the resources needed for teacher training and professional development;
- enable educators to innovate in teaching while maintaining their well-being;
- engage young people in shaping their learning experience;
- effectively support educators and young people by building interaction networks in the sectors of interest.
An overall report on the orientations expressed by the EU Commission expert group will be published in 2025. The group, whose activities are part of Pathways to School Success, a flagship initiative of the European Education Area, is made up of researchers, academics, teachers and school principals, teacher trainers, school and child psychologists.
The document will set out in detail the orientations, the results of the studies carried out and strategies and practices from which to draw inspiration to reach all schools in Europe.
