La Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture launches the call for the designation of before purchasing, Italian capital of contemporary art for the year 2026.

The new recognition is established to encourage and support the planning and implementation capacity of Italian cities in the field of promotion and valorization of contemporary art. 

The call finances cultural projects that include activities such as exhibitions, festivals and reviews, as well as the creation and redevelopment of spaces and areas dedicated to the enjoyment of art. Applications will be evaluated by a Jury composed by five experts in the sector of culture and contemporary visual arts.

Five finalist cities will be selected and finally, the Jury will propose to the Minister of Culture the candidacy deemed most suitable to be awarded the title, which will enjoy funding of one million euros for the implementation of the design activities presented.

Each city wishing to apply for the title may submit an application with an attachment project dossier by 30 2024 June.
