For two years, we have been helplessly watching a massacre targeting a people already segregated, starving, and deprived of fundamental rights. Despite the evidence of a genocide underway in Gaza and the use of starvation as a means of extermination, most Western governments have chosen to look the other way, if not be complicit, ignoring the thousands of children, women, and men murdered, guilty only of being born in a disputed land. While protests against Russian aggression are taking place in Ukraine, silence remains for Gaza and Palestine.

To react to this institutional immobility, the Global Sumud Flotilla, a non-violent, independent humanitarian mission with no ties to political parties or governments. Volunteers from 44 countries, including Italy, have chosen to set sail for Gaza aboard numerous boats—some departing as early as August 31st, others departing from Sicily and Tunisia on September 07th—loaded with food, basic necessities, and toys.

As a InformaGiovani We have never hesitated to support the Palestinian cause and nonviolent actions to affirm the rights of that people. Today, we stand once again alongside those who risk their freedom and security to bring hope to a people left alone for too long and to shine a spotlight on the reality of what is happening across the sea. Basing our work on the defense of civil rights and the right to information, we feel not only the desire but the duty to tell and share the story of this extraordinary humanitarian mission, especially in light of the extremely serious statements by Israeli Minister of National Security Ben Gvir, who compared the crew members to terrorists worthy of arrest and imprisonment.

We invite everyone to follow the events of the Global Sumud Flotilla closely through the their website and to support its work by sharing stories and updates. The safety and success of the mission also depend on our contribution.

Fair winds, Global Sumud Flotilla!
