DiscoverEU is the action of the Erasmus+ program which aims to offer young people aged 18 a travel experience that can foster their sense of belonging to the European Union, allowing them to explore the diversity of Europe, its cultural heritage and its history, connecting with people from across the continent and ultimately discovering yourself.
You can leave alone or in a group (maximum 5 people), for a maximum period of 30 days, with the obligation to visit at least one European country other than the one in which you reside.
The European Commission will provide the winners with a pass DiscoverEU to explore Europe.
In principle the winners will travel by train. However, in order to ensure the widest possible access, the action offers alternative modes of transport such as ferries and buses where necessary and takes into account considerations regarding environmental protection, travel issues and distances.
In exceptional cases and when no other means are available, you can also take the plane. In this way they will be able to participate in DiscoverEU even young people living in remote or island regions.
The winners will also be granted a European Youth Card (EYCA). Valid for one year from the moment of activation, the card offers young people a whole series of reductions on cultural, educational and sporting visits and activities, nature excursions, public transport, accommodation, catering and much more.
The costs of food and accommodation remain the responsibility of the participants, but through the use of the EYCA you can access particular discounts, for example for access to Youth Hostels.
The call for participation is published one or more times a year and includes a selection based on the answers to simple quizzes on Europe. Given the high number of requests to participate, a draw may be carried out among those who correctly answer the questions, which also takes into account the country of residence to ensure a good geographical balance in the number of participants.
