Ciao a tutti

I'm Hassan, from Somalia and I've been living in Italy for two years.

This year they introduced me to Erasmus+ and the possibility of volunteering abroad with the European Voluntary Service.
I thought about participating because I wanted to engage in a volunteer activity and get to know a new place in Europe.

I spent four weeks in Belgium volunteering in a center for disabled people. Mainly I helped them eat, and together we painted chairs, tables. This activity was to help them practice the use of their hands. We also went on walks and accompanied them with wheelchairs.
We stayed with them and made them smile.

During this experience I met other volunteers from many parts of the world, from Mexico, Japan, France, Italy and Togo. Together we did activities with the disabled and cooked. I introduced Italian dishes and tasted dishes from other countries.
I was able to visit Brussels and make trips to Antwerp and Binche, a small village in Belgium. I have enjoyed all the places I have visited.

Upon my return, I advised my friends in the community to have this kind of experience, and I recommend it to all kids because this is a good way to lend a hand to people who need help, and learn to work with people of other countries and learn about new cultures.
