Culture and heritage to be protected.
The 2026 European Heritage Days have begun, the annual initiative promoting events dedicated to the history, culture, and places that represent European identity. The program runs from September to early October and involves over 50 countries.
The theme chosen for this edition is "Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine," dedicated to cultural heritage at risk. The aim is to draw attention to the need to protect places, traditions, and heritage that can be damaged by war, climate change, natural disasters, or abandonment.
The initiative is promoted by the European Commission and the Council of Europe. The events highlight the role of communities in the care, transmission, and valorization of cultural heritage, in line with the principles of the Faro Convention.
The program includes guided tours, exhibitions, seminars, shows, and digital experiences. The activities are designed to bring citizens of all ages closer to Europe's heritage, offering new opportunities to learn about the history of regions and communities.
Information on individual events is available through the official European Heritage Days portal.
