Move easily for work within the Union, thanks to the recognition of your skills. European Commission – DG Employment has initiated a public consultation in view of the adoption of initiatives on portability of skills (Skills Portability Initiative) inviting workers, employers and other stakeholders to share their views and experiences regarding the obstacles they encounter in cross-border recruitment.
The initiative aims to simplify the often lengthy and complex procedures for recognizing the qualifications of professionals and workers and to promote the use of digital tools for their certification and portability. The goal is to make the processes faster, more transparent, and more efficient. Contributions will be considered for the drafting and refinement of the project, which is scheduled for submission by the end of 2026.
In light of the results of the consultation, three interconnected actions will be developed:
- a potential legislative proposal that facilitates mobility and inclusive processes of workers through greater transparency of skills and qualifications;
- development of measures to facilitate, modernize, and expand the recognition process for regulated professions;
- a legislative proposal that includes shared rules aimed at simplifying and reducing the necessary time.
The public consultation will remain open until 27 February 2026. In order to participate click here (English page)
