The project is carried out thanks to the financing of Ministry of Business and Made in Italy and is based on surveys carried out by Global Footprint Network. The GFN tries to calculate on which day of the year the natural resources that the earth can reproduce over the course of a calendar year are exhausted. From that moment of the year, the use of resources begins "at the expense" of future generations, because it consumes resources that will no longer be regenerated.
For Italy, in 2024 this occurred on May 19th. Globally on August XNUMXst.
So this date marks the day when the total use of natural resources exceeds the planet's ability to regenerate them. It is therefore more urgent than ever to reverse this trend: the guide is a real map to orient consumption, habits and actions in a sustainable perspective.
A handbook divided into macro areas - living, eating, moving, buying, surfing (online), planning - which aims to provide information and suggestions to citizens for:
- critically evaluate one's purchasing and consumption choices regarding goods and services;
- actively contribute to the definition and adoption of more sustainable production and consumption models from an environmental, economic and social point of view;
- become responsible contemporary consumers.
The guide is part of the activities of the SpreKO Generation Life project, in line with goal 12 of the UN Agenda 2030, and has the general objective of contributing to the promotion of sustainable production and consumption models (from a social, economic and environmental), starting from initially individual and then collective change.
