Il European Parliament has published the call for the Daphne Caruana Galizia Award (Maltese journalist known for her investigations into corruption and financial crime, murdered in a bomb attack in 2017), awarded annually for in-depth investigative reporting by professional journalists based in the EU. The initiative rewards journalism that promotes or defends the fundamental principles and values of the European Union, such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights.
Journalists or teams of journalists of any nationality are eligible to submit in-depth investigations published or broadcast by media outlets based in one of the 27 EU member states. The aim is to support and highlight the importance of professional journalism in safeguarding freedom and equality.
To participate, the following specific requirements must be met:
- the investigation can be written in all official EU languages;
- a summary in English must be provided in the application form (500 words maximum);
- a journalist or a team of journalists can participate with more than one work: however, they will have to submit an application for each text they send.
