When you volunteer, you always start with the idea of giving back to others, but you almost always end up returning home with unforgettable memories. This is exactly what happened to us during the activities carried out as part of the project. Veil Corps, an initiative that is part of the program European Solidarity Corps and is funded by theXNUMX-XNUMX business days.
From the very first days, we rolled up our sleeves to care for the common spaces and contribute to the well-being of the community that hosted us. We brought color and life back to the Allume bridge, beautified the streets of Sciglio by filling them with flowers, and passionately dedicated ourselves to maintaining Roccalumera's meeting places, from the community center to the main square. Working in the summer heat could have been tiring, but the support of the locals transformed every moment into a celebration. Between one brushstroke and the next, the locals overwhelmed us with disarming generosity, offering refreshing drinks, food, and countless smiles. Their solidarity and warmth made us feel welcomed from the very first moment, truly making us feel at home.

Our program, however, wasn't all about work. We had time to explore the area, have fun, and be captivated by the local wonders. We were literally blown away by the breathtaking view from the Ancient Theater of Taormina, we were enchanted by the wild beauty of Isola Bella beach, and we made a regular stop at BamBamBar for an unforgettable granita. This free time was crucial for us to connect with the place and, above all, to forge authentic and deep bonds within our group.

Our daily routine was rhythmic, demanding, yet extremely stimulating. The day began with the alarm clock at eight and the first work session from nine until noon. To make our time together special and involve everyone in the household chores, we divided the tasks: some cooked, some set the table, and some washed the dishes. After our lunch break, we resumed work from four to six in the afternoon, finally rushing to the beach to enjoy some well-deserved relaxation and the sea.

Dinner was perhaps the most precious moment of all. We sat together to reminisce about the day's activities, but above all to talk about each other, share traditions, and taste the typical products each of us had brought from our hometowns. Then, over the weekend, tiredness gave way to the desire to go out, dance, and celebrate together.

We return from this experience tired but immensely happy, knowing we've left a mark and created memories that will stay with us forever. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this trip so special.
