Curiosity, empathy and hope are the keywords that partially manage to frame our wonderful experience as volunteers with the Rotllana in Badalona. An unexpected adventure full of emotions, healthy values, beautiful people and new perspectives to observe from every angle.
These are our considerations regarding the activity:
I'm Alessia, a 22-year-old girl who loves travel, nature and adventure and I chose to launch myself into this new experience right away to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone on my own, to tone down the daily routine and experience a new business. I chose Spain and in particular Badalona to be able to discover and truthfully observe the habits of this Spanish city and its people and to be able to train and improve my Spanish. The project lasted just under a month and consisted in creating free recreational and sporting activities in a public park. There I had the opportunity to see the true richness of the initiative and of the people who are part of it, who have proved to be kind, helpful and sunny throughout the period of the activity. It was a wonderful experience, an unexpected journey that I would do again immediately. I learned many things and met many people with whom I shared unforgettable experiences and emotions. I thank Rotllana for making me rediscover the true importance of little things, for giving me the opportunity to get involved with myself and others and for making me feel at home.
My name is Martina and I am a 21 year old student at the University of Florence. The experience with "La Rotllana" begins when one day, tired of the daily routine I was used to and of a series of situations that made me "unwell", I decided to apply to participate in a volunteer project in Spain, more precisely in Badalona, a city not far from Barcelona. I cannot deny that what made this experience even more exciting were meeting the boys and girls of the apartment and the possibility of being able to visit the Catalan Metropolis, so well connected with Badalona and really easy to reach by metro. Speaking of work experience, the tasks consisted mainly in the assembly and disassembly of the various recreational and recreational activities that the association organized in a public park, open to all and completely free. The experience lasted 26 days and today I can say that I wish it had never ended because I found myself in an environment where I felt part of something and where I found myself totally at ease. Having had the opportunity to feel like myself in a new context, without feeling judged or left out by the people I worked with was a gift for me. Furthermore, discovering and interacting with cultures other than mine and seeing new situations has allowed me to discover certain parts of my character that I did not know before … and for this I will be forever grateful.
