There is time until February 3, 2026 to participate in the Google Summer of Code 2026 (GSoC) including mentor organization, and make their mark on the open source field. Selected GSoC contributors—university students and novice developers aged 18 and over—will be able to immerse themselves in the open source world by coding projects during the summer months.
Participants will receive financial compensation based on their country of residence and project type (ranging from $1500 to $3500). The initiative includes design and study activities alongside community experts, aimed at developing a solid understanding of the dynamics, best practices, and soft skills needed to become a high-impact open source developer/contributor.
The route foresees that the potential GSoC contributors contact the mentor organizations they wish to collaborate with in the time window between 16 and 31 March 2026A joint project proposal is then drafted: once selected, GSoC contributors spend a few weeks familiarizing themselves with the community rules and code, also defining together the milestones planned for the summer.
In 2026, there will be increased focus on the areas of artificial intelligence, security, and machine learning. From here All the information you need to become a developer – English page.
