The European Citizens' Initiative is now open for signature collection. “Stop Killing The Internet: No Digital ID & No Age Verification”, dedicated to the use of digital identity and age verification systems to access online services.
The promoters are calling on the European Commission to introduce legislation that, in line with their proposal, would maintain voluntary and non-discriminatory digital identity and age verification systems and ensure greater privacy protections. The measures they propose include anonymous or pseudonymous age verification, data minimization, independent security audits, and alternatives for those who do not use a digital wallet.
The Commission registered the initiative after verifying its legal admissibility. This decision does not constitute a positive or negative assessment of the requests submitted and does not confirm the accuracy of the statements contained in the proposal, which remain the responsibility of the organizing group.
