Erasmus + 2021-2027 is the European Union Program for education, training, youth and sport and was born from the evolution and development of some of the oldest actions for young citizens carried out by the European Union.

The Program places great attention on the issues of social inclusion, the green transition and the development of adequate digital skills, as well as the promotion of participation in democratic life. The intent is to allow participants of all ages, in especially for the younger ones, to achieve the skills (and qualifications) necessary to actively participate in society, to truly have an intercultural outlook and to understand how to move once they enter the world of work.

Individuals and/or groups are encouraged to have a mobility experience for the purposes of learning (non-formal and informal) and collaboration. The program then encourages cooperation, quality, inclusion, excellence, creativity and innovation at various levels.

Thanks to the Program's activities, these words are transformed into opportunities and training paths that respond to the needs of young people of different ages and interests, as well as those who work with and for young people.

In an increasingly fast-paced and stratified world, Erasmus+ is in fact an excellent experience of personal growth and exchange (strategic, vision, information) even for adults.

The transversal priorities of the Programme

Erasmus+ is, together with European Solidarity Corps, one of the main implementation tools of the European strategy for young people and for achieving European youth objectives, through 4 horizontal priorities that apply to all activities and Actions.

The Program has a dual division, by areas of intervention and by key actions.

The areas of intervention, with some cross-sectoral actions, are:

  • Youth
  • School
  • Higher education
  • Professional training
  • Sport

In our guide we focus attention on the Youth and Sports sectors, giving general information on the other sectors.

Within each sector except Sport, activities are further divided into three key Actions.

Key action 1: intended for individual mobility.

It aims to encourage and support mobility for educational purposes of young people, students, socio-educational and youth workers, staff of educational institutions and sports staff.

Even if mobilities concern individuals, they often occur in groups of people and the role of bodies and organizations is always fundamental. Some types of activities can only be international, while others, in the youth sector, can also be national.

The shares of Ka1 are managed by different National Agencies.

Key Action 2: innovation and good practices for organizations and associations.

The actions supported under this Key Action should contribute significantly to the priorities of the Program and have positive and lasting impacts on the participating organisations, the political systems within which these actions take place as well as on the organizations and people directly or indirectly involved in organized activities.

This key action should generate the development, transfer and/or implementation of innovative practices at organisational, local, regional, national or European level.

These actions are managed by National Agencies or from ourEuropean Executive Agency EACEA, depending on the field and type of applicant. Detailed information on who can apply and where to apply is specified in the different sections of this guide.

Key Action 3: support for the definition of sector policies and cooperation

This action provides support for political cooperation at European Union level and between the Commission and different civil society actors, contributing to the implementation of existing policies and the development of new policies capable of “triggering” modernization and reforms, in the fields of education, training, youth and sport.

In particular, its intent is to increase the participation of young people in democratic lifeca, especially in discussions with policy makers.

All Ka3 actions are managed directly by the Commission and theEuropean Executive Agency EACEA.
