Focus on AI use, skills, and access to technologies.

The European Commission has published two new relationships dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on education in Europe.

The first report analyses the use of theGenerative AI in teaching and learningTechnology is increasingly entering educational practices, but its effects depend primarily on how it is used. Furthermore, its long-term impact on skills remains uncertain.

For this reason, the document emphasizes the need to offer teachers and trainers adequate training, both initial and ongoing, accompanied by clear guidance for the responsible use of AI.
The second report instead examines the state of thedigital education in European schoolsMost education systems now have digital infrastructure and tools in place, but differences remain in access to technology, technical support, and the quality of digital environments.

Digital competence is included in lower secondary school curricula in almost all the systems analyzed, while specific national assessments are still not widely used. Nearly two-thirds of education systems have also already introduced strategies or guidelines dedicated to artificial intelligence.

The findings of the two reports will inform future European initiatives on skills, teacher and trainer training, and digital education infrastructure.
