Protecting children from unsafe digital services and artificial intelligence systems

The goal is to promote healthy and responsible interaction with the digital single market, operating within a coherent regulatory framework. Everyone can express their opinion on the proposed EU KIDS Act regulation, developed by the European Commission to strengthen the protection of children and adolescents in digital environments. The consultation is aimed at a diverse audience of internet users, including parents, guardians, teachers, educators, and online platforms interested in the proposal. The initiative is supported by public data justifying the project, including the report of the co-chairs of the expert group on online safety, consultations dedicated to web users, and the 2026 survey on young people's online experiences.
The proposal recognizes the risks that boys and girls face on some online social networking systems and video-sharing platforms and therefore limits the independent creation of accounts on specific platforms and services by individuals under the age of 15. By identifying a reference age across the European Union, the aim is to harmonize national rules, eliminating any obstacles to the implementation of the digital single market, and ensuring a consistent level of protection for all boys and girls in the European Union.
You can express your opinion until 3 December 2026. The contributions received will be summarised and forwarded to the European Parliament and the Council for legislative debate.
