This line of action is aimed at already established organizations and individual artists who regularly organize residencies and are, therefore, interested in hosting artists and cultural professionals at their premises.

Participating artists and cultural professionals must be legally resident in a Creative Europe country other than the host country.

Specifically, the residence action (who can participate in the request for funds) is aimed at legal entities (such as non-profit, private, public, foundations) that operate in the following sectors:

  • architecture
  • national cultural heritage
  • design and fashion design
  • literary translation
  • music
  • performing arts
  • visual arts

I residency projects should pursue one or two of the following objectives:

  • To explore: Conduct research, investigate, and work on a specific theme or new concept.
  • To create: engage in a collective creative process that seeks to produce a new piece of artistic/cultural work.
  • To learn: improve participants' skills through non-formal learning or collaboration with a specialist.
  • To connect: develop a network, strengthen the professional development of participants.
  • To transform: enable social change in line with the values and principles of the new European Bauhaus.

Those requesting financing for residency projects ̶ which can last from 22 to 300 days ̶ will act as mentor for artists and cultural professionals by providing locations, support and equipment suited to their field of expertise. In this world, those who participate will be able to concentrate on their own project (individual or collective).

It is a good idea to include the objectives, expected impact and duration in the proposal. It's possible welcome 1 to 5 international artists and cultural professionals who must however participate on the same dates and for the same duration of residency.

When filling in online, you must choose the duration of the project which can be short, medium or long term, namely:

  • short-term residency project: between 22 and 60 days;
  • medium-term residency project: between 61 and 120 days;
  • long-term residency project: between 121 and 300 days.

La residency grant contributes to supporting the costs associated with hosting international artists and cultural professionals and the costs of their mobility.

In detail with the financial support for hosting costs it helps the organization to cover the costs of implementing the residency project. It is a fixed amount per participating artist or cultural professional and covers accommodation, tutoring costs, equipment and so on.

La mobility grant includes, however, travel allowance and daily allowance and will be received after selection and signing of the grant agreement.

These are amounts and any optional increases that should be assigned and transferred to each participant by the organization. The amount per participant is calculated based on the travel plan and individual needs.

The travel allowance it depends on the travel distance that the participants will have to cover to reach the residence and the means of transport used. The distance between the individual participant's place of departure and the place of residence is automatically calculated during the application.

The daily allowance it is for participating artist or cultural professional. It can be used for food expenses, local transportation and other local expenses.

There are also gods supplements “fixed”, cumulative, which depend on individual situations and needs and must be documented; these figures should be given to the participant in addition to the mobility grant: green (if the participants do not travel by plane, round trip), supplements for travel to or from overseas countries and territories or the outermost regions; for expenses related to visa procedures; disability support (budget to be agreed with the “Culture moves Europe” team based on the individual needs of artists and cultural professionals whose disabilities affect the ability to carry out the mobility project); family integration: fixed amount, i.e. it does not matter how many children you have. It is a help for those with children under 10 years old.

The application process has two phases. In the first stage the attention is paid to the applications and selection of hospitality entities. The successful candidates then proceed to second stage during which they select and confirm the artists and cultural professionals who participate in their residency projects.

Selected residency projects must be implemented and completed within 1 year of signing the grant agreement.

For "each period" it is possible to participate in only one announcement, however you can reapply several times for the "Culture moves Europe" residency grant as long as:

  • are notices relating to different periods;
  • different projects are presented with other participating artists and cultural professionals.

This action of the Creative Europe Program is managed through the portal of the Goethe-Institut which, on behalf of the European Commission, receives the applications. Therefore, to submit your proposals, you must consult the Goethe-Application portal.

The following questions represent a general criterion for evaluating projects; if the proposals provide adequate answers to one or more of the questions listed here, you are on the right track:

  • Does the residency project provide adequate support to participants? For example, regarding planning, environment, housing, etc.
  • Is the selection process of participating artists and cultural professionals clearly detailed and justified?
  • Does the host serve as a mentor and collaborator with the participating artists and cultural professionals?
  • Is the residency project relevant to the candidates' work and activities as well as to the objectives of Culture Moves Europe?
  • Does the residency project have long-term impacts and benefits? For example, for both guests and participants, on the local and/or national arts and culture ecosystem/sector.
  • Does the project take sustainability into account?
