The European Union, through the Digital Services Act (DSA), has intensified supervision of large technology companies to strengthen the protection of users and consumers. The European Commission has taken action against large companies, such as Aliexpress, Amazon, TikTok, YouTube, Meta and Snap, requesting detailed information from the platforms on the strategies actually implemented to guarantee the safety of minors online. This request fits into the application framework of the Digital Services Act, focusing on the protection of the mental and physical health of young users of the platforms. If companies respond unsatisfactory, the Commission may take legal action, including imposing fines for incorrect or misleading information.

The Commission specifically requested Amazon e Ali Express to provide details on the measures implemented to adapt to the new DSA regulations, regarding the diffusion of illegal products and the protection of Rights fundamentals. The e-commerce giants have until December 2023 to respond. The Commission will assess compliance of both and, in case of non-compliance, may initiate formal proceedings against the companies.

This initiative sets a significant precedent for the regulation of large online platforms.
